Another week, more custom cycling shoes! I’ve spent the past few days working on two pairs of Giro Empire shoes for a customer in Puerto Rico. Keeping with current trends, both pairs were based on Nike designs. One were black, the other white. One pair were ACC, the other SLX.
I was given a loose brief on the first pair of shoes – a white pair of Giro Empire ACC. The shoes themselves had some damage, however, this was soon repaired. The eventual design borrowed elements from the Fizik R1 cycling shoes I did last week, with slight logo size adjustments. As with the Fizik, this design features a Nike swoosh on the toe and reversed swoosh on the outside heel. The regular “Off-White” text is located on the inside heel area. The Nike/Giro mash-up logo is on the black tongue. I used Flat White, Flat Black and Orange paint – supplied by Angelus Brand as always.
The second job was a pair of black Giro Empire SLX with yellow logo and detailing. After some discussion, the customer finally went for the standard Nike “Off-White” design that you’ve all seen before. The SLX are great shoes to work with as the paint adheres really well to them. However, they can also prove tricky sometimes due to the ventilation holes in the material. Out of the two models of Giro Empire, I would probably say I prefer the ACC for general customisation.
Both of this weeks designs featured small personalisations on the “Off-White” text, with the customer requesting “Los Rebeldes” instead of the normal “Giro Empire”.
As always, thank you for all your support and check in next week to see what I’ve been top to. Stay safe!
